Outdoors
Welcome to my Outdoors page!
I used to do outdoor activities a lot more, but as of late I haven’t had as much energy for it. Kayaking and paddle boarding are fun though. I remember when I studied abroad in New Zealand, I went kayaking to the volcanic island, Rangitoto, with a couple from Michigan and a man from England. The man from England was my kayaking partner and he looked like Martin Freeman in disguise. I was ready to tell him how much I loved Sherlock and The Hobbit. When we got back to mainland NZ though, I accidentally pulled the kayak onto the shore before he had time to get out and he went falling face first into the water. Absolutely hilarious that I pushed Martin Freeman into the ocean.
Aside from water sports, I also used to hike a lot more. I hiked through the mountains of Asia, California, Scotland, Cape Verde, you name it! I’m just kidding I’m not an intense hiker like that. Someone once told me California hikes are just “glorified” walking so in the words of that person…I’d say I’m more of a “glorified” walker. I hiked a 2 day hike once through the mountains of Otago with my flat mates and I thought I wasn’t gonna make it back. I slipped and hit my head then went to sleep with the fattest headache. When I got in my sleeping bag I thought to myself, “So this is how I go…miles away from my family on a tiny little island that people always mistake for Australia”.
I made it back in one piece though and will not be doing that again! (๑'ᵕ'๑)
Paddleboarding
As you can see in the picture above, I have an inflatable paddleboard. They’re pretty cool and spacious, but an absolute headache to inflate. I am not advertising for Roc products, but my paddleboard seems nice and sturdy. When you register it you get to choose a free shirt or free seat for the board. I was like why on earth would I want a Roc T-shirt when I can get free accessories for my board?
Kayaking
These are some of my most recent kayaking adventures. One of my most favorite times was when I kayaked down the bayous of Louisiana (left/top photo). My friend and I got to see some gators! So cool! We had to stay behind though while our tour group went ahead because there was this one lady who would not stop nagging and yelling at her husband. Her noise was scaring off all the gators so she was a bit annoying. The right/bottom photo was when I visited Glacier National Park. The water was so clear, calm, and peaceful. From what I could see, there wasn’t much wildlife in the water, but maybe if I dove in I would’ve seen more.
