Baked Goods

Welcome to my Baked Goods page!

This is my page for my baking atrocities. I am not a professional baker. I make a lot of average weird things out of boredom. I’d love to one day be that auntie who makes some real good sweetbread, cornbread and cookies though.

One time I made an Oreo cheesecake that could kill a person and obliterate their arteries. I pressured my brother into eating it and even his bottom-feeding appetite couldn’t handle it. I may post those recipes if I can find them, but when I make stuff like that I don’t usually document anything. I will post photos though whenever I make something bad. I will also post recipes that I think are good or decent. I tend to tweak general recipes I find online to match my tastes. You won’t see the recipe for this bread to the left/top though because while it wasn’t terrible, it wasn’t good either. I made it with 2 different black berries and red huckleberry, which weren’t very sweet so it the bread was quite tart.

Anyway, enjoy what you read and find on this page!

Baked Sweets

So I made a bunch of shortbread cookies with 5 different jams from my foraged fruits. I made jam from nootka rose hips, Himalayan blackberries, red huckleberries, oval-leafed blueberries, and cornelian cherries. You can see the color difference for some of the jams in the jar photo.

I altered the recipe maybe 4 times and I also made a vegan batch for my lactose intolerant sister. They definitely taste best straight out of the oven. I had to be careful not to overbake the vegan ones because they harden for more than their dairy counterpart. Over time all the cookies soften though. I think my favorite was my last batch because it was the flakiest ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). You can check out the recipe here and make your own changes.

Four small breaded and baked shortbread cookies with fruit preserves, two with dark purple jam and two with red jam, resting on a paper towel.
Six shortbread cookies with fruit toppings on a paper towel inside a plastic container.
Three glass containers filled with a dark red liquid, jam, on a white marble countertop in a kitchen, with various kitchen items in the background.

This is a cake I made when the Salmonberries were all over the place. It looks kind of dry in the left photo, but it really wasn’t. It looks dense too but it really wasn’t. I’m sure I could have made it richer if I had more ingredients. I do like to use yogurt and soda/carbonated water to help get some moisture and air into the batter. Yogurt is expensive though, I don’t eat it that often, I was broke and jobless so I had to work with what I had. I still think she came out scrum-deli-umptious. That frosting I put on top…was good (0_0)! You can find the recipe here.

Baked Bread

I remember years back I visited Hawaii for the first time with my family. My absolute favorite thing about Hawaii was the Polynesian Cultural Center and even more than that center…their taro bread! I remember watching the different types of Polynesian dances and while I enjoyed the dancing, I couldn’t stop thinking about how I needed to grab more taro buns. When I got home I was like I can’t exist in this world without those taro buns. So I looked up the center’s recipe and started baking. I baked way more rolls than in these pictures, but for some reason I decided to get creative for Christmas and color them. Some may not like the coloring, but I had fun and the rolls were fluffy and sweet (ㅅ´ ˘ `). Their recipe can be found here if interested.
