Barred Owls

I was walking through some trees one day when I saw something in the middle of the path. As I got closer I noticed it was a barred owl. I wondered why it was just sitting in the middle of the trail and not in a tree. It turned to look at me and I saw it moving its head in a circular motion while making this high-pitched screeching noise. I was like “WAUW! What a creepy-looking bird just sitting in a forest staring at me and screaming while I’m all alone.”

There were two others flying around in the trees. Turns out the owl had caught a squirrel and I think it was letting its parents know with that little screech. I get why people think owls are creepy though. The feathers around the eyes are dark so it makes it look like it just has black holes for eyes. If you look much closer though (through some binoculars or a really good camera) you can see its big ol’ eyes blinking. A very very cool bird in my opinion.
