Chocolate
Throughout my time in New Zealand, I ate a lot of yogurt and chocolate. My young self had no idea what a good chocolate and yogurt tasted like before that point in history. One day, I went with my flatmate to the OCHO chocolate factory (Otago Chocolate Company) for a tour and chocolate taste-testing session. I honestly don’t quite remember what the factory looked like. My biggest memory of the place was watching the conching process and tasting the conched chocolate before any sugar or milk was added and boy oh boy…I didn’t know it was possible for dark chocolate to be so smooth and delicious without having anything in it. If I could walk into a GOOD chocolate factory whenever I wanted chocolate and just point at the freshly conched chocolate to take to-go, I would do it in a heartbeat. I guess some of the greater things in life are only meant to be enjoyed once every blue moon though…( ´・・)ノ(._.`)
The picture I have for this blog post is not freshly conched chocolate. It is, however, a beautifully delicious milk chocolate that is made by Whittaker’s and goes by the name of…Creamy Milk! Before coming back to the US I made sure to buy multiple bars hoping it would last me a few months. When I finished them I truly believed I would never come across it again because it’s a New Zealand brand and no one in the US knows a thing about New Zealand. I went to World Market, hoping I’d find something there because that’s the one store that imports chocolates, wines, snacks, etc. from all over the world. Unfortunately, they did not have the Creamy Milk bars so I gave up. Then one day, when I was visiting Vancouver Island, I went to a grocery store near Qualicum Beach and while I was walking through the aisles a bright light flashed before me. As the light slowly faded and my eyes started to adjust, there it was…Whittaker’s Creamy Milk bars. We had been reunited after so many years apart and we have never parted ways since. That, my friends, is a true love story.
